We’re really close to the LibrePlan 1.6.0 release now.
In fact, the release has already been tagged.
Packages should start becoming available soon — after one final little detail.
Because of course there was one last bug.
There is always one last bug.
Fortunately, this one is solved already. I just still need to push the fix, retag the repository, and then we should finally be good to go.
After all the work on new features, translations, CI/CD workflows, packaging, documentation, and release preparation, it feels slightly surreal to be this close to the finish line.
But this time, it’s real.
The internet is getting weird
On a completely different note, I’ve increasingly started noticing how many online platforms are actively participating in what people now call Enshittification.
At first, platforms are useful.
Then they become dominant.
Then gradually the priorities shift away from users and communities toward engagement metrics, monetization, algorithms, lock-in, and investor interests.
And once you start seeing it, you suddenly see it everywhere.
Honestly, it’s becoming exhausting.
Moving toward Matrix
Because of that, I’ve decided that LibrePlan’s primary communication platform will move toward the Matrix network.
Why Matrix?
- Because it is federated.
- Because it is non-commercial.
- Because nobody owns “the platform”.
- Because communities can host their own infrastructure.
- Because communication should not depend on whichever company currently controls the algorithm.
It simply feels more aligned with the values behind open source software and digital autonomy.
The migration is not fully set up yet, but as soon as the Matrix space is available, I will post the link here.
And yes — I’m fully aware this probably means slightly fewer people will join compared to commercial platforms.
That’s okay.
Not everything should optimize for growth.
Sometimes independence matters more.
